Better to Give

We commit to giving something to someone everyday for one month.

Tonight I took my friend Jenn out for sushi. She’s visiting from Chicago and it’s been such a joy to spend time with her - to catch up, laugh, talk about our lives, drink tea in the kitchen. She asked me months ago if she could come visit and although I’m the one “hosting” her, it feels much more like she’s the one giving to me. Just spending time with her, feeling her love, reconnecting with an old friend, having her want to come see me — feels so generous. And it’s nice to be reminded of where you come from, that people love you just because, and to offer each other the space to talk and listen. Especially the listening — gotta keep doing that. Gotta work on that.

I’m not feeling that inspired to write at the moment. The blogging feels much harder than the giving. But I’ve liked hearing from people that it’s been making them think about giving and so I hope that this can be an offering that we’re making and perhaps in some small way, ripple out into the world.
